This is a stop-motion animation film in progress. I started it as a drawing in 2020, and after the Santa Cruz fires I collected charred branches from the burn zone to use for mark-making. While I am drawing I imagine being in a dark forest on a cloudy night, and every once in a while the clouds pass and moonlight illuminates a redwood in front of me. The slow temporality of the image is accompanied by sound that layers the thick time that old-growth trees inhabit: other creatures in the forest including humans, rain, storms, fires, logging, and others.
